"Hotel is well managed and clean, however, if someone is looking for the "usual" hotel experience, this is not it. No a/c, and extremely small rooms in addition to the ancient elevator might scare some people away. It is necessary that people understand-when a hotel is built in 1914, it will look like it is built in 1914. I had a great experience, but others may not."

"This hotel is in a great location but is old and has furniture that is marginally acceptable. The staff are friendly and the housekeepers do their job, but there are no extras here. For the price, if that's the most imporant factor, it's the place to stay in San Francisco."

"It's a budget hotel in a terrific location. I've stayed there several times because the proximity to Union Square is great."

"I was not given a queen bed even though i specifically requested a queen bed as opposed to a twin bed and paid extra.
please don't ever stay at this place- they don't even have parking and claim to be a 2 star hotel- the windows are not sound proof and you cannot catch any sleep since this area is too noisy.
An absolute no no- receptionists were rude and not conversant in English- they just couldn't understand what I was trying to tell them.
A very bad experience- did not want all this unecessary tension in the middle of a busy conference."

"My stay at this hotel was good. I was impressed. Not too luxurious, old building but modest, well kept and new paints. Nice view from the rooms, safe area and very close to major areas of the city. Sure a good value for the price. I will stay there again."

"Very nice rooms with period baths with little lions paw feet, I felt perfectly happy leaving belongings around the room and apart from folding the occasional t shirt they didn't disturb my belongings. An extra pillow arrived in minutes, and they didn't moan when my face cloth ended up covered in halloween make-up. The rooms are lovely and quiet (I was on the top floor) and I was particularly pleased to see that the small toy koala bear who travels with me was treated with respect and tucked back under the sheets every day"
