"I only stayed for one night but this was a good place to stay for the amount I payed compared to the rest of San Francisco. The area seems a little bit shady and it got quite loud at the hostel across the street at night, but nothing I felt endangered by. The staff was friendly and attentive, and although the room was small it was a good deal. I would recommend this place for someone who isn't staying in S.F for too long, as it is a steal for the price you pay."

"I would make sure others know there is no parking at the hotel. It cost a lot more to stay there and pay extra parking than if we would have stayed at a more expensive place. The location is like skid row where the bums hang out. The noise level from the street was loud, and there was no coffee pot in the room, which made it inconvienet to bring coffee up from the lobby in the old elevator. I guess I really didn't like it very much, even though it was clean and close to city transportation,Chinatown, and The Wharf. I personelly wouldn't stay there again."

"Essex Hotel is located in Ellis Street. In this Street in direction to Union Square and to Public Transport, South and East from the hotel, homless people and people with drug problems get their meals.
You do not feel save!"
